Most “acupuncture-curious” folks like you probably heard the news: needles today make the pain go away. But here are 3 truths that are not as well known.
That lower back pain? It might be the result of underlying GI issues or something seemingly unrelated. Acupuncture treats the symptoms, but the goal is to treat the entire being. That’s why you are able to achieve immediate and lasting relief.
This is in terms of style, standards, and severity. The “no pain, no gain” outlook has no place at Capria Care. Instead, we are pioneering a new style of acupuncture where consent, mutual respect, and communication are not only values, they are absolutely, positively required.
Studies show that acupuncture is an effective treatment for anxiety and stress. Both are a sign of imbalance in your body. By redistributing Qi (energy) through strategic acupuncture points, cortisol is reduced, serotonin is stimulated, and balance is restored.
Rest assured, acupuncture at Capria Care is safe during all stages of your baby making journey.
Whether you’re just getting started, in the emotional throes of IUI or IVF, already pregnant where morning sickness abounds, or you’re entering the exhausting “4th Trimester” – no matter where you're at, we will support you, physically and mindfully, every step of the way.
“We care…A LOT.”
“Since opening this clinic, it has always been my #1 priority to share this life-changing service compassionately and with great empathy, in a calming, comforting space where consent, communication, and feelings are deeply respected.
If this is your first go at needling, Capria Care will ensure a gentle experience. It is our goal to help you walk away from your treatment with a noticeably relaxed nervous system, relieved of pain, and delightfully surprised at just how well acupuncture actually works.”
Above all else, your comfort and trust are paramount. Our practitioners are held accountable to incredibly high standards, and you will never be touched, poked, or treated without your clear consent.
If you have questions about our training, certifications, or process, don't hesitate to schedule a free consultation.
Acupuncturists at Capria Care are expertly trained in several modalities that offer incredible health benefits. Both needling and needle-free options are available.
If you decide eventually that maybe you can tolerate a strategically placed needle - we’ll reassure you with the old creature comforts— cookies and a juice box.
Needling is the insertion of hair-thin needles into the skin. The skin is disinfected prior to the insertion to ensure that there is absolutely no chance of infection.
Depending on your condition, your constitution, your acupuncturist will insert anywhere from 6-30 needles into your body. If you have a “less is more” mindset about needles, let your acupuncturist know, and they can modify your treatment accordingly.
After your acupuncturist has ensured that none of the needles are causing you pain, you will be left to peacefully rest for 15-30 minutes. It will take some time for the effect of the needles to take hold, after which, the needles will be carefully removed and disposed of in a Sharps container.
Cupping is when glass cups are suctioned to your body using the vacuum from a flame, or when the air is sucked out of plastic cups by a pump.
Your Acupuncturist can choose to use flash cupping, moving cupping, or stationary cupping depending on their diagnosis or treatment plan.
Stationary Cupping: The cups remain in place for 5-20 minutes of your treatment.
Moving Cupping: Lotion is applied before the cups are securely suctioned, and your Acupuncturist will move the cups around the affected area. The cups will pull gently on your skin.
Flash Cupping: Cups are applied to your body before being swiftly removed and reapplied. This style of cupping sounds quite satisfying as the removal of the cups creates a rhythmic melody.
Gua Sha or scraping is a technique that is similar to instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization. Essentially, a smooth tool made of stone or ceramic material is scraped against your skin to create a “sha” or hyperemic effect (increased blood flow).
This can create small red dots along the skin, though the Acupuncturist will only treat according to the patient’s pain tolerance or preference.
A modern take on acupressure that targets acupuncture points along the ear to help alleviate pain, reduce stress, and ease allergies or insomnia. Small seeds’ (made from herbs/vaccaria, metal, ceramic, or plastic) are placed on the ear using a waterproof adhesive. These are placed on the patient's ear at the end of the session to help lengthen the effects of the treatment at home. Ear seeds can be kept in for a few days until they fall out naturally. Once they fall out, ear seeds should not be reused. Patients are advised to remove the seeds if they experience any discomfort or if any irritation occurs.
A form of heat therapy in which moxa (dried Chinese mug wort) are strategically burned near the skin, directly on the skin, on top of herbs (like a ginger slice), or on an acupuncture needle to invigorate the flow of Qi to alleviate pain.
A form of deep tissue massage that focuses on acupuncture points and meridian pathways. It is a component of TCM therapeutics where practitioners will use fingers, hands, palms, and elbows to stimulate specific acupoints without the use of needles.
