Prenatal Massage RMTs in Coquitlam, BC

Massage Therapy For Pregnancy

We’re prenatal massage therapists who know pregnant bodies—and how to keep you safe, supported, and feeling really comfortable in yours.

It’s Beautiful, Exciting & Incredible, But…

A pregnant Black woman is leaning against the wall, drinking a cup of tea as she looks out the window. She is wearing a soft white robe and has her hand on her pregnant belly.

It's ok if it's super hard too!

We don’t have to tell you that your pregnant body is going through ALL the changes right now. You know as well as better than we do that the aches, pains, cramps, and strains are taking a toll. And that you’d love to leap out of bed with that spring you used to have in your step. And that you so miss feeling comfortable in your skin!

Your body is doing so much and it’s a gosh-darn miracle that WILL be totally worth it. And maybe you will miss it one day. But with us, you don’t have to explain all that. Consider this your safe space to vent, put you first, and get what you need to have the pregnancy you want.

Less discomfort. More relief!

The Benefits of Pregnancy-Safe Massage

Research shows that prenatal massages can decrease stress hormones and physical stressors in the body, like anxiety and pain. Massages can also improve overall mood, promote better sleep, and increase the connection you feel between mind and body—even mind and baby!

Pregnancy Massage Can Reduce or Alleviate:

  • Tight, sore muscles

  • Joint aches and pains

  • Insomnia

  • Mood Swings

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Neck and back pain

  • Leg cramps

  • Swelling

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING

Massage Is Completely Safe During Pregnancy

…And it just might be your new favourite thing!

You can safely book a massage treatment at any time during your pregnancy! As long as you aren’t experiencing signs of a high-risk pregnancy—or if you are but have been approved for RMT by your doctor—you are good to go.

Like exercise, massage is safe to be continued or started during pregnancy, as long as it’s done in a baby-safe way (which our treatments always are). Some parents are extremely cautious in the first trimester, which we fully understand and respect. Just know that whether or not you should book is an individual decision.

Prenatal RMTs + The Pregnancy Pillow = Your New BFFs

Richelle Seki, founder and resident RMT of Capria Care Collective, is zipping up a pregnancy pillow, a useful tool for pregnant women to get massages comfortably.

Pregnancy massage is a great way to relax and take the stress off your body and mind during pregnancy—but not all massages are created equal. Untrained hands and unsafe setups can be a risk while baby is on board.

So while we are all for that free shoulder rub your partner gave you last night, if it’s available to you, we also recommend booking a professional massage with a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) who has specific prenatal training!

Trained prenatal RMTs take all necessary precautions, avoid massage styles that are contraindicated, and use specific approaches to make your treatment safe and comfortable for you—like using a pregnancy-specific pillow to keep your weight off your bump!

Our Prenatal RMTs Are Trained In

  • Massage Therapy (Registered with RMTBC)

  • Prenatal Massage

  • Postpartum Massage

  • Chest/Breast Massage

Questions about our training and certifications? Don’t be afraid to email us to get all the information you need.

What To Expect When You’re…Coming For Your First Massage

See what we did there?

Booking your first appointment can be intimidating. Here’s what we want you to know:

Our Space Is Calm & Clean

Our space hits that perfect balance of clean and comforting. We keep it hypoallergenic and sanitized so nothing interferes with your chill, and you feel at peace from the moment you walk through the door.

We Set The Table For You

Prior to your arrival, your RMT will prep the room by sanitizing every touchpoint and setting up the pregnancy pillow if you need it. We’ll dress the table with crisp sheets and a fresh blanket, and heat or cool the room, too.

This Is A Judgment-Free Zone

This is your appointment! Your comfort is #1. Please do not apologize for having hairy body parts, showing up sweaty, crying during your session, wearing sweats to your appointment, or not wanting to fully disrobe.

What You Can Expect From Us

From your first massage therapy session on, you can expect us to:

  • Check-in with how you’re feeling

  • Assess and reassess any aches, complaints, or injuries you have

  • Communicate everything we’re doing and ask for your feedback

  • Ask for consent before placing our hands on your body, both before the treatment and before touching potentially sensitive areas

  • Offer suggestions for maintenance exercises and mental health strategies

  • Listen to your needs and support you thoroughly

Pregnancy Massage FAQs

  • A: Yes, with the handy-dandy pregnancy pillow! You can also lie on your side if you prefer. In fact, we usually treat you using a mix of three positions: face down on the pregnancy pillow, side-lying, and semi-seated. This way, we can access all parts of the back and body, and allow you to readjust if one position becomes too uncomfortable after a while. (As it inevitably does!)

  • A: Yes, as long as you feel comfortable with the treatment and don’t have signs or symptoms of a high-risk pregnancy, or if you do have signs and symptoms of a high-risk pregnancy but have been cleared for RMT by your doctor.

  • A: You bet!

  • A: Yes! We currently bill directly to Pacific Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sunlife, Desjardins, Manulife, and Industrial Alliance. We have just begun direct billing to ICBC, you can book online and we will sort your payments out for you in the clinic.

  • A: The preferred method of payment is via credit card online or debit/credit via POS device at the reception.

  • A: Our schedule is open 3 months ahead to enable you to book the necessary recurring appointments. If there are no appointments available at the time of looking, add yourself to the waitlist and you'll hear from us in an email.
