A: There’s some overlap between physios and massage therapists—physiotherapists use some massage techniques as part of their practices, and massage therapists do some rehabilitation in their practices. But physiotherapists have a broader scope of practice, more in-depth and specific assessments. And, they focus on rehabilitating muscles and joints. Whereas massage therapists tend to focus on treating more immediate muscle spasms and pain.

A: We offer orthopedic therapy, vestibular therapy, concussion management, IMS needling, and sport and performance therapy. We also offer acupuncture, pelvic floor physiotherapy (coming January 2024!), kinesiology, and clinical Pilates.

A: Vestibular physical therapy (AKA vestibular rehabilitation) focuses on issues that affect or involve the brain, spinal cord, and nerves (the vestibular system). It’s a specialized type of therapy, meaning therapists have to do extra training in order to offer it. And it’s helpful for treating conditions like vertigo as well as issues with balance and dizziness.

A: Yes! In fact, booking with a physiotherapist trained in Pelvic Floor Health is a great idea. Physiotherapists with specialized training in pelvic health take all necessary precautions during pregnancy, avoid treatment types that are contraindicated, and use specific approaches to make sure your treatment is safe and totally comfortable for you. Yes and yes! We currently bill directly to Pacific Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sunlife, Desjardins, Manulife, Industrial Alliance, Green Shield and ICBC.

Nope! The BC healthcare system doesn’t require that you see your physician before booking a physio appointment so if you’re in pain, just book right in! The only consideration is your insurance provider. Some of them do require a doctor’s referral. So if you plan on billing insurance for your treatments, just double-check your plan first!
